Honoring Those Who Honor Lincoln
President Abraham Lincoln was again honored in Galesburg over Labor Day weekend.

But who worked to purchase and design the granite statue that was placed in Colton Park, were themselves honored Monday night.

During the Galesburg city council meeting, Mayor Sal Garza presented the Mayor's Award to each of the members of the group, which included Sixth Ward Alderman Wayne Allen.

"We took on two projects the community had said they wanted for years, but we haven't been able to put in. One was the veterans memorial that won Hometown Governor's award, and the Lincoln statue, which I think we will be turning in for Hometown Governor's Award too, might as well. The next project is a quite one, it hasn't been announced yet, but it will be and it's a big one."

Allen says more big plans are in store but would not hint at what they might be.

The community members work is done completely by private donations, not city funds.
