Knoxville Action Plan Taking Shape
An official with the Knox County University of Illinois Extension Office says she couldn't believe just how much Knoxville residents were interested in improving their town.

Economic Development Educator and Knoxville native Carrie McKillip told the City Council there Monday night of surveys sent out earlier this summer asking residents what they want to see in the city, 38 percent returned them, which she says, is very good for any survey.

But McKillip says that wasn't all she was thrilled with.

"The draft of all the written comments and how thick it is; people didn't just mark the boxes, they filled out the blanks, and when we asked them what they wanted to see, they were quite willing to share their ideas. So we are currently synthesizing that and we'll have that for the final report."

McKillip says it's been overwhelming at times for staff at the Extension office to pare down the written survey responses, but that's a good thing.

A community meeting is being planned for October 21st at six p.m. at the Knoxville American Legion to release formally the results of the survey.

Then, McKillip says, teams will be formed to work on action plans for improvements.
