Benefits of the New Healthcare Law
Advocates are celebrating some provisions of national health care reform that are now in effect. Those provisions include:

- A ban on coverage caps
- A ban on denying insurance because of pre-existing conditions
- A ban on dropping a policyholder for allegedly not disclosing previous problems.

Heart transplant recipient Tim Fraas of Elgin says everyone should read their insurance policy and find out what's really covered, and for how long. He says he has great insurance, with a $3 million lifetime cap on coverage, but says that doesn't last long when you've had a transplant. He's a supporter of national health care reform.

The Campaign for Better Healthcare, based in Champaign, claims that new health care laws will prevent the premature deaths of about 9,400 people in Illinois over the next decade because they'll have insurance, and didn't have coverage up until now.
