U of I President Says Troubles Hurt Ranking
URBANA, Ill. (AP) -- University of Illinois President Michael Hogan says the school's image has been badly damaged by last year's admissions scandal as well as the state's financial crisis.

Hogan on Thursday told trustees that oversee the university's three campuses that the damage was evident in the Urbana-Champaign campus' drop in this year's U.S. News & World Report rankings. The flagship campus fell from 39th to 47th in the recently released national rankings.

Hogan says the rankings matter when faculty members seek outside money for research and as the university tries to recruit professors.

Hogan says the university needs to find more money on its own because the state can't be counted on to address its $13 billion budget deficit any time soon.<
