Harvest Progressing Well in Illinois
An excellent crop report greets Illinois farmers in mid-September.

The harvest numbers are very strong according to the USDA's chief crop statistician in Illinois Brad Schwab.

"We did see some storms come in over the weekend and that slowed things down a little bit, but for corn were are currently at 38 percent harvested and if we all remember last year we were only at one percent at this time because of the delayed planting that last spring. Comparing that 38 percent to the five year average, normally we're at 12 percent for this time of year. Now for soybeans we're at ten percent harvested and that's ahead of the five year average of five percent. So both corn and soybeans are off to a good start when it comes to harvest progress."

The state's western reporting region has 82 percent of corn mature with 13 percent harvested. 47 percent of soybeans are shedding leaves while just one percent are harvested.
