Giannoulias Criticized Kirk Over Small Business Vote
(IRN) -- The Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate is calling out his opponent for voting against a bill that would help small business.

Democrat Alexi Giannoulias criticized U.S. Rep. Mark S. Kirk (R-Highland Park) on his vote against a bill that creates a $30 billion federal fund to help small businesses get loans. The measure was touted as part of the Democrats' jobs agenda, and the vote was split along party lines.

Kirk criticized the bill Thursday as "another government bailout program." He also said it had some provisions that were detrimental to businesses.

A Republican-leaning small business advocate group supports Kirk's "nay" vote. Brad Close, vice president of the National Federation of Independent Business, says there was concern about additional federal spending. "We heard from members of ours that were very concerned about the government spending another $30 billion of taxpayers' money," Close said.

Giannoulias says Kirk talks about wanting to help small businesses in Illinois but then doesn’t vote that way in Washington.
