Quinn Announces Funds for Transportation
CHICAGO (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn has announced $100 million in capital funding intended to help Illinois cities and towns repair potholes and repave roads.

Quinn announced the funding Friday at a Chicago park flanked by mayors from across the state.

Officials say the money will create more than 1,000 short-term and permanent jobs.

The mayors say the infusion of cash will help them finish road projects and other construction before winter starts and costs go up.

The money will be distributed to local governments by the same formula that's used for the Illinois Motor Fuel Tax.

The $100 million will boost the regular distribution of the fuel tax by 17 percent.
