Pumpkin Crop Out of Its Gourd by Weather
The spring and summer weather is helping provide what otherwise will be a really good corn and soybean harvest, but some other crops aren't faring so well.

Chief among them is the pumpkin crop. That had the owner of Country Corner north of Alpha in Henry County more than a little concerned. Bruce Curry says his 10-acre pumpkin crop was quite affected by early rains and some flooding -- along with heat later on -- and that he has more rotten pumpkins than normal.

Curry tells WGIL he should still have plenty for sale, though.

My "YouPick" patch has been open a couple weeks now," Curry said. "I'm leaving all the pumpkins in the patch for the people to pick. Any extra pumpkins we need, we have another farmer that's supplying me. Right now, there's about 10,000 pumpkins for sale."

Curry also says that will leave plenty of pumpkins for the store's popular pumpkin cannon and other activities.

Plus, the corn crop was good, so that leaves his corn maze ready for children and groups, too, for his business' busy period, which is September and October.
