Police Investigate Death of Young Boy
UPDATED 12:00pm 9/27/10 Galesburg police aren't releasing many details about the death of a three-year old boy a day after he was first brought to a local hospital.

A police department statement does indicate officers responded to OSF Saint Mary Medical Center Saturday around 2pm following a call of a child who was brought into the hospital unconscious and unresponsive.

They say the boy, Darion Smith, was later transported by helicopter to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead Sunday at 5 pm.

Police aren't saying anything about the circumstances which led to the boy being brought to the hospital to begin with.

They do say the boy lived at a residence in the 1500 block of McKnight Street.

An investigation, police say, is continuing, along with the help of the state Department of Children and Family Services, a State Police Crime Scene investigator, and the Peoria County Coroner's Office.

It's not clear if any arrests have been made.
