More Kids Have Health Insurance
(IRN) -- It seems more children in Illinois are enjoying the benefits of health insurance. A new report from the Census Bureau says the percentage of kids with coverage grew from 94 percent in 2008 to 95 percent last year.

Kathy Ryg, president of Voices for Illinois Children, says the All Kids program should get a large portion of the credit. She did not mention former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who promoted himself as the "health care for all" governor; she stressed the important thing is that more children are being covered.

But, Ryg adds, any number of uninsured children is too large, saying, "You want every child in your child's classroom to have had the benefit of regular doctor visits where they can get their immunizations and their screenings," she says.

The national rate of uninsured children is 9 percent. Among the state's 23 most populous counties, Macon County had the highest rate, about 14 percent.
