New Poll Shows Tight Races in Illinois
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- A new polls shows a virtual tie in the Illinois Senate race.

Democrat Alexi Giannoulias was favored by 43 percent of likely voters in the Time/CNN poll released Wednesday. Republican Mark Kirk had the backing of 42 percent.

The Green Party's LeAlan Jones trailed at 8 percent.

The poll of 828 likely Illinois voters was conducted by telephone Sept. 24-28 by Opinion Research Corp. The margin of error for each result is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

The poll also shows a tight race for governor. It shows Republican Bill Brady with the support of 40 percent of likely voters and Democratic Governor Pat Quinn with 38 percent.

Independent Scott Lee Cohen was favor by 14 percent. Cohen was originally the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor but quit amid allegations of domestic violence and steroid use.

The Green Party's Rich Whitney had 4 percent.

The poll of 828 likely voters was conducted by telephone from Sept. 24-28 by Opinion Research Corp. It has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
