GOP:Randle Leaves with Unanswered Questions
The Republican candidate for governor says the head of the state's corrections department did the right thing in stepping down.

State Senator Bill Brady says the news that Department of Corrections Director Michael Randle has tendered his resignation is good, but says there are still many unanswered questions about a prisoner early release program implemented by Randle.

"One of the problems with this is that now the guy who has all the answers to the unanswered questions is gone," Brady said Friday morning before a campaign stop in Bourbonnais. "Maybe he'll feel free to share with Illinois what really happened and how we can prevent this from happening ever, ever again."

The accelerated Meritorious Good Time program, or MGT Push, released hundreds of prisoners, some of whom never served time behind bars.

Brady says Governor Pat Quinn should have fired Randle after the MGT Push program became public.

A report last month said the Department of Corrections failed to consider possible dangers to the public when it tried to save money by granting early release to prisoners, some of whom were violent.

Quinn heaped most of the blame on Randle, who said Quinn ordered violent offenders not be part of the program.
