Some Roadwork Supended for Holiday Weekend
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois highway officials say road work will be put on hold where possible this Labor Day weekend to ease traffic congestion.

The Illinois Department of Transportation made the announcement Thursday.

Some construction zones throughout the state will continue to have lane closures. The department urges drivers to slow down and drive with care through work zones. Posted work zone speed limits will be in effect.

Also, the Illinois State Police is reminding drivers to buckle up.

Authorities say state and local law enforcement officials will be targeting impaired drivers and safety belt violators.
