Hog Days Provides Plenty of Activities Labor Day Weekend
An annual celebration in one Henry County community is underway, and officials say even in a down economy, it seems to be getting bigger this year.

The 57th annual Hog Capital of the World Festival or, "Hog Days" runs through Labor Day in Kewanee, and festival board secretary Larry Flannery says in addition to what has become the "World's Largest Pork Chop Barbecue," there's a road race, softball tournament, flea market, and other events throughout the weekend in Henry County's largest city.

Flannery tells WGIL the festival hasn't been affected by the recession, and it might be close to bursting at the seams...

"I'm watching with interest this weekend because a lot of events where you need to preregister, for example to be a vendor at our craft and flea market show, things like that, the entries have actually been higher than normal this year. So there's going to be more people coming, more people involved."

And many of those events take part in various parts of Kewanee, Flannery says, as compared to some festivals that just center on one location.

He says there are always plenty of out of town visitors, including a couple that comes from Pennsylvania every year.
