Warm, Wet Summer Recorded
The Illinois State Water Survey says the summer months were wet and warm, and has the numbers to prove it. State climatologist Jim Angel says the summer; June through August, brought 16.7 inches of rainfall, which was 5.2 inches above normal, ranking as the sixth rainiest summer on record.

The statewide average temperature for summer in Illinois was 76.4 degrees, 2.7 degrees above normal and the seventh warmest summer on record. Statewide records extend back to 1895.

September looks to be a little warmer than usual, with an equal chance of more, less, or average rainfall. Angel does say that the wild card is an active tropical storm season, which could bring extra rain from the Gulf of Mexico into Illinois.
