Illinois Man Turns to Art for Comfort After Katrina
NEW GRAND CHAIN, Ill. (AP) -- Robert Ketchens may have left New Orleans years ago, but the southern Illinois man says the city is still a part of him.

So when Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, he says he turned to art for relief.

He's created 24 oil paintings depicting the impact and destruction of the 2005 hurricane. Some incorporate personal references, like his childhood home.

Several pieces of his Katrina series are on display at the DuSable Museum of African American History in Chicago.

Ketchens says he found comfort in the art work, but he couldn't find understanding.

The professional artist lives in New Grand Chain, Illinois, but still has siblings that live in New Orleans.
