Man Gets Jury Trial on Village Clean Up Demand
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (AP) -- A suburban Chicago man living in a van in his padlocked home's driveway has been granted a jury trial on a village demand that he clean up his cluttered property.

John Wuerffel of Schaumburg will appear in Cook County Circuit Court on Thursday for jury selection and trial on the charge of violating village ordinances.

The 62 year old Wuerffel was locked out of his house last fall by mortgage holder HSBC Corp., because of the belief the property was abandoned. HSBC officials say the keys were returned to him last week.

Wuerffel says he can't move in because he doesn't have money to get the utilities turned on.

Village Attorney Elmer Mannina says vehicles packed with Wuerffel's belongings are parked in front of the house. Photographs of its interior show it is packed floor-to-ceiling with recyclable items, including empty soda cans.
