U of I to Test Cell Phone Paid Parking Meters
URBANA, Ill. (AP) -- Motorists who park their vehicles on the University of Illinois campus will soon be able to pay with their cell phones.

School spokesman Andy Blacker says the university will begin a three month trial on 200 cell phone paid meters. Blacker says if the trial is successful then it will become permanent.

He tells The News-Gazette newspaper in Champaign that the meters will likely be convenient for those who don't carry a lot of change.

Motorists can dial in and sign up for a free online account. Blacker says customer credit cards will automatically be charged the standard university parking rate of 75 cents an hour plus a 35-cent convenience fee per transaction.

If needed, motorists can call again and add time to their account.
