Quincy Veteran's Home to Get Million Dollar Upgrade
QUINCY, Ill. (AP) -- A veterans' home in the Mississippi River city of Quincy will be getting state help with $2.4 million in improvements.

The construction announced Monday by Gov. Pat Quinn includes replacing the site's deteriorated, 124-year-old chimney stack and ash-handling system, and the heating and air conditioning will be upgraded.

The work will begin this fall as part of the Illinois Jobs Now! capital construction program and be coordinated by the Capital Development Board, which administers all state-funded, non-road construction projects.

The projects are to be finished by late next year. The veterans' home on 210 acres of property dates to 1886 and houses 25 buildings. More than 450 veterans from 70 of the state's 102 counties call the site home.
