Hy Vee Reopens After Late Nigh Compressor Fire
A second floor fire in the compressor room late Monday night at the Galesburg Hy vee on National Boulevard caused the grocery store to open it's doors later than usual Tuesday.

Hy Vee Spokeswoman Ruth Comer says some of the produce had to be discarded because of smoke and for precautionary means.

"This morning we are back in business after having the health inspector come and certify that all the departments were cleaned up and ready to go," Comer says. "So the store is back open now and has reordered some of the products that were lost and that should be arriving today."

Galesburg Fire Battalion Chief Todd Peterson says his department responded to a 9-11 call at 11:51 Monday night for smoke coming out of the rear of the building and out of the roof.

He tells WGIL crews spent nearly three hours at the site as an overhaul procedure, but initially maintained the fire in a decent amount of time.

Peterson says water leaked down to the lower level of the store from their efforts, causing damage to items in the bakery and meat area.
