Galesburg Now Providing Bamboo Infrastructure
Long term sustainability is in the core of a new green company in Galesburg trying to limit the use of forestry in infrastructure.

Founder and CEO of Lamboo Incorporated Luke Schuette says his company will offer bamboo structural components for windows and doors.

He says his background in architecture at Southern Illinois propelled him into starting Springfield-based Lamboo in 2007.

"I really got into structured materials, engineered wood materials, I was always fascinated with bamboo and how strong it is just as a raw material," he says. "It kind of just was the simplicity of just stating this has a high strength, high silconic content has even more uniformity, you can enhance it's structural capabilities even in it's rawest form. Similar to what's been done with wood."

Schuette says Lamboo is building on sustainable technology already in place while proving bamboo components to select manufacturing infrastructure companies internationally.

He tells WGIL Lamboo Incorporated will occupy 5,000 square feet at Galesburg's Sustainable Business Center initially, and will hopefully grow from two staff members to 20 in the next two years.
