Abingdon Approves Putting Consolidation Question on Ballot
District consolidation is coming soon to a ballot near you in Abingdon.

The Abingdon board of education has approved the district's petition to place a question on the March election ballot regarding consolidating the Avon, Bushnell-Prarie City, and Abingdon school districts.

Superintendent David Black tells WGIL the others have done their part.

"Avon approved their resolution [Wednesday night], and I believe [Bushnell-Prairie City] did it the week before. So, all three districts have approved their resolutions, stating that they're in favor of filing petitions with their Regional Office of Education."

Black says while waiting for the March ballot, potential new board members need to take their own action, and will soon receive information on filing candidacy papers.

District 217 board members also approved their budget for the 2011-2012 school year with no issues according to Black.

He describes the board as being fiscally responsible before his arrival in July.
