Monmouth Men Injured In Crash
An accident involving a semi hauling corn, and a pickup truck has sent two people to the hospital.

Illinois State Police in Macomb say the accident happened just past 9:30 Tuesday morning in Warren County at the intersection of Illinois 164 and 55th Street.

Troopers say 83-year old Robert Martin of Monmouth was in his pickup headed eastbound on 164 and wanted to turn on to 55th Street.

But they say he turned into the path of a westbound semi driven by 63-year old Thomas Larkin, also of Monmouth.

Larkin tried to swerve to miss the truck but couldn't, ending up going through a ditch and embankment, overturning in a nearby corn field, causing the corn in the trailer to spill.

Martin's vehicle ended up coming to rest in the roadway.

Both Larkin and Monmouth were taken to OSF Saint Mary Medical Center, but the extent of their injuries isn't known.

Troopers say both vehicles suffered what they termed as major damage.
