Claim By Officer Leads to Perjury Charge
CHICAGO (AP) -- A former Chicago police officer has been charged with perjury for allegedly falsely accusing a mourner in a funeral procession of assaulting her.

Authorities say Debra Green was at her sister's funeral last year when she saw a car weaving through the procession to the cemetery. The driver was Sylshina London, an off-duty Chicago police officer late for work. When Green yelled at her, London allegedly called other officers for help. Shortly afterward, Green was arrested for misdemeanor battery.

The Independent Police Review Authority investigated the incident after other mourners complained. The investigation found a video that showed London's driver-side window was closed at the time she alleged Green threw a bottle at her.

Green's conviction has been vacated. London was freed on bond Wednesday. Her lawyer declined comment.
