From 3 Walkers To A Couple Hundred
In it's 19th year the annual Knox-Warren Walk to End Alzheimer's has grown in large proportions since its inception.

The Hawthorne Gymnasium in Galesburg Saturday saw over 200 hundred supporters pledge to take a walk around the block outside.

Co-Chair of the event committee Peggy Johnson says the former "Memory Walk" has grown from it's original 3 walkers, but says the 3 mile walk still carries the same message.

"We are becoming more and mroe aware of the impact of Alzheimer's and the devastation that is taking place as the baby boomers come along," Johnson says. "This disease can actually break the federal government before it's done."

Just about $26,000 dollars was raised during Saturday's Walk to End Alzheimer's. This is off from last years grand total amounting to a bit more than $32,000 dollars.

But even some of the participants like Jewel Winters understood this year would be rough.

Her team celebrating her late husband and Alzheimer's victim Leo Winters took home third prize in last year's walk. But she says she wasn't expecting nearly as much this year because she says things aren't as good financially in Galesburg.

The top team this year was Marigold, raising $5,657 dollars.
