Spam Leads to Glam For A Former Galesburg Resident
One former Galesburg resident remembered how the community came together because of a recent contest and decided to act on what she initially thought was spam.

Now an idea to improve a Galeburg park has Kristine Kaden
entered into the bidding for a 50,000 grant, compliments of the Pepsi Fresh Project.

Kaden tells WGIL after living in Galesburg almost her whole life, the playground equipment at O.N. Custer Park is lacking just as much as when she was a child.

"It has about 12 layers of paint on it, it's very inadequate for the amount of children that go to the park," she says. "There's at least hundreds a day, that go there through the summer, as you anybody can see from any little game going on for how packed it gets. There just isn't enough equipment there, so I thought why can't we get the money to help the park, and improve the playground?"

Kaden says she is among a national random drawing of hundreds of idea submissions for the grant. She is asking for anyone and everyone to vote for her idea at refresheverything.com/helpourpark from now until September 30th.

Kayden says the top ten projects that are voted for will receive the $50,000 grant from Pepsi. Public Works Director Larry Cox has already given Kaden his backing in providing labor and installation for new park equipment.
