Lt. Governor Likes Health Department Garden
In between stops 33 and 34 of her Complete College Tour Monday, Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon made a stop at the Knox County Health Department in Galesburg.

Unfortunately for the rainy weather, Simon could not get quite the glimpse of the 20 by 30 foot garden plot she had ventured to see. But Simon tells WGIL she was still impressed by how the idea of the garden came about.

"It's fun to hear that they started by just putting baskets of food in the clinical rooms," Simon said. "When kids were waiting to see a doctor, you just pop a [cherry tomato] in their mouth, and it was a big hit. They thought, 'let's expand.' It's local, it's healthy, it's right here. The price is right. Everyone wins."

Simon says the health department's growth of tomatoes, cabbage, and peppers- just to name a few- promotes a healthier lifestyle that will lead our country in a better direction.

The Knox County Health Department does more with the veggies then just placing them in waiting and clinical rooms. They use the green foods teaching tools in nutritional classes also.
