WGIL Exclusive: Indonesia Gives Sales Pitch to Galesburg
Out of 13 midwestern states, Illinois ranks number one in total trade with Indonesia, totaling $551 million.

The Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia, Benny Bahandewa, is interested in developing trade relationships with Galesburg.

He tells WGIL he was attracted by various manufacturers in town, the farming efforts, but also Galesburg's incubator: the Sustainable Business Center.

"It is important...how to double up business, to start business," Bahandewa said. "For us, it is important so we can connect from [the Sustainable Business Center] to Indonesia, how we like to double-up the business, and also the networking, and also to work with the strong industry in Galesburg. Many think that we like to do business with Galesburg."

Bahandewa spoke at the Sustainable Business Center Tuesday to prospective business partners, outlining Indonesia's past trading successes and future goals in a presentation called "Doing Buiness in Indonesia."

Bahandewa says the republic's number two import from the U.S. is soybeans, behind aircrafts but ahead of cotton and wheat. He says Indonesia's number one export to America is natural rubber.
