C-S-C Hosts Drive For Life Simulator
There's never a perfect road to drive on, but never any time to drive drunk.

Carl Sandburg College students were encouraged Wednesday to test their fate on a course lined with orange cones creating multiple variations of curves while wearing vision impaired goggles.

Illinois State Trooper Jason Wilson tells WGIL the "Drive For Life" simulator rarely triggers a successful try in the golf cart.

"Many of them have actually said right afterwards as their getting out of the golf cart and we're trying to pull all of the cones out from underneath the golf cart, there's no way in the world I'm going to drive like this, I know I can't do it," Wilson says.

"Which is what we want to see happen, we want these guys to understand there are possible ramifications if you get caught drinking and driving but the worst thing that can happen is you kill someone else while you're behind the wheel and intoxicated. So if they can take this away from this then we have definately done our job."

Wilson says the goggles change the participant's visual perception within seconds, from a sober state to a B-A-C of 1-point-oh.

The Drive For Life simulator was part of C-S-C's recognition of National Campus Safety Awareness Month.
