Green Energy An Option For Knox County
An interesting alternative energy project was presented to the Knox County Board on Wednesday: a gas energy project that converts landfill waste into energy.

William and Charles Representative Jeff Gregory says his firm has contracted waste energy facilities as far as Oregon and as close as Rochelle.

Gregory says Knox County should would never want to give up control of your gas electric system.

"You are ultimately responsible for the landfill, and for all the permitting, you're going to want to make sure you have a proper gas collection system," Gregory says.

"What happens today is there is a lot of fugitive emissions of gas that just goes into the air. As size increases in your landfill, you are evertually going to have to have a gas collection system."

Gregory explained to board Wednesday that the project comes full circle. He says the gas collected would be sold to either William and Charles or another developer, and then available for Knox County's own purchase.

Gregory says in buying back the electricity it can be used as green power.
