Fly-In Reuinites Passion For Stearman
Labor Day signifies the start to the 40th Annual National Stearman Fly-In in Galesburg.

Planes that were first used during World War II and then recycled into crop dusters first filled the skies above Galesburg's Labor Day parade.

Texas native Nick Sager made it a point to be the first to arrive this year, landing his stearman in Galesburg August 18th. He says he most looks forward to reuniting with people sharing his same passion for the biplanes during the week long event.

"It's more about the people, the people we only see once a year," he says. "It's just a great reunion."

Sager says nothing compares to life on a Stearman.

"There's nothing like it, you're outside in the air. It's like Stearman and Harley Davidson Motorcycles, it's kind of the same thing. The noise, the wind in your face, just a great experience."

The National Stearman Fly-In runs through September 10th with free air shows Friday and Saturday at the Galesburg Municipal Airport.

One dollar tram rides are available for the general public Monday night. Over 200 Stearman planes are expected for the Fly-In.
