Budget Approved For District 205
Galesburg School District 205 approved its 2011-2012 Fiscal Year budget during last night's board of education meeting, but with a change from a July presentation.

Modifications were made to District 205' budget while unchanged were the Knox Warren Special Education District and Galesburg Area Vocational Center's budget.

Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations Guy Cahill says the state informed the district they would be cut $805,000 dollars in general state aid.

"We will back fill that lost state aid with moving corporate tax dollars in an equal amount from the operation and maintenence fund to the education fund, and then we will offset the imbalance that now occurs in the operation and maintenence fund by reducing the capital outlay line item by an equal amount. Again by $805,000 dollars, so that both budgets in building will remain in balance."

Cahill says the approved budget holds the district's education fund surplus at over $23,000 dollars on close to 40 million dollars in expenditures and revenues.
