City Council Gets Update On Quiet Zones
The Galesburg City Council is so far pleased with the plans going forward to convert several rail crossings in town as quiet zones at the same time the rail crossing grade separations are being built.

A special city council work session Monday night dealt with the quiet zone plans. Eight crossings, mostly along the Chillicothe rail subdivision, will still be closed, and in a couple cases, pedestrian bridges will need to be built, and circuitry upgrades will need to be undertaken for the crossing arms in those areas.

6th Ward Alderman Wayne Allen said he likes what he sees.

"I'd like to thank Wayne Carl for all the work he's put in on this, I know it's been a lot of time spent. And I know we've been years getting to this point and to not move would be foolish."

But not all residents did. Some local business people had concerns about the proposed Seminary Street overpass, which will still be under construction as the quiet zones are built as well. One, Dick Lindstrom, suggested that a paint shop near the Seminary Street crossing is in danger of closing once construction on the overpass is built.

He described the diversion of traffic because of some of the quiet zones, as like taking all the traffic on I-74, and taking it to U-S 150.
