Galesburg Man Pleads Guilty to Damaging City Building
A Galesburg man has pleaded to charges stemming from what was an arson incident at a City of Galesburg building almost two months ago.

22 year old Nicholas Wells was in Knox County Circuit Court yesterday, where records indicate he pleaded guilty to a charge of Criminal Damage to State Property, and had a charge of Arson dropped in exchange.

Wells was arrested July 29th after giving chase to police from near Henderson and Tompkins Streets, to a home in the 100-block of South Arthur Avenue.

Authorities say that was after Wells was spotted by officers sitting on a bicycle near the city's salt storage facility, noticing that a window was on fire.

Wells later told officers he started the fire, using a lighter and a water bottle full of gasoline.

Wells was sentenced to 90 days in the Knox County Jail with credit for 45 days already served, and must also pay five-hundred dollars in restitution.

Court records indicate Wells has a prior criminal history, including a 2008 criminal damage conviction that resulted in court supervision and community service.
