State Senator Candidate Says No to Pay Increases
A candidate for a state senate district about to include part of Galesburg says the incumbent is saying one thing, and doing another.

Specifically, Republican Randy Frese is talking about State Senator John Sullivan, and how Frese claims Sullivan has said he hasn't voted for legislative pay increases but has seen his own salary increase by 50 percent over ten years, and has said he never voted for a tax increase, but voted for the so-called 67 percent tax increase.

Frese told reporters at the Knox County Courthouse it's all a part of what he says is deception in Springfield.

"They play this voting game. Thy bring the bill up to shall we increase pay for the legislators and for constitutional officers and they have a select number of them that vote yes and they pass the bill. But that doesn't make it so until they have pass the appropriations to pay of the pay raises."

The Adams County resident says claims to those ends made by Sullivan in a 60-second campaign ad that's been release are, quote, "propaganda," and "misleading."

Sullivan, meanwhile, announced yesterday in a press release he has returned hope to Rushville after successful cancer surgery out of state. He says he doesn't expect to have any chemotherapy or radiation, but still needs some time to heal.
