Approval for a Deficit Budget
The Knoxville School district asked the school board last Monday night to approve a deficit budget for the 2013 fiscal year.

The school board approved the budget and Superintendent Steve Wilder tells WGIL they do have a decent size operating budget and reserves if needed.

"Our operating budget is about ten million dollars, we have sufficient reserves to make up the difference. Sill hoping by the end of the school year that we wont need those reserves, but if we can keep it at the level or less we should be able to afford using reserves"

Wilder says he originally budgeted for a hundred and seventy five thousand dollar deficit but the district got some last minute grant money that was able to reduce the budget deficit to a hundred and twenty five thousand dollars.

Wilder says the district did take a two hundred thousand dollar hit in state aid and that is a continuing factor in the budget deficit.
