City Council Tables Late Storey Liquor Ordinance
There is still no decision on a proposal that has been months in the making: whether or not alcohol sales will be allowed at Lake Storey Pavilion during special events.

Aldermen tabled the measure last night, after 7th Ward Alderman Jeremy Karlin asked for amendments that, despite a heated exchange during the meeting, Mayor Sal Garza said he was amenable to, and despite saying he wasn't going to change anything about the ordinance two weeks ago.

Among the changes, Karlin said it was unnecessary to require that a mechanism be put in place requiring anyone under 21 to be properly identified.

"I don't think it's necessary to have people have armbands or stamps at these types of things the drams that are catering these events are trained they're required to card, I think if they have a question about the age of someone they have protocol which to do that."

Also at issue was allowing only beer and wine sales at such events, but aldermen determined that the solution to that was a special class of liquor license that will be taken up separately.

Karlin also objected to what he called the unnecessary cost of having a police officer patrol the pavilion during special cost, at a cost to be paid by whoever rents the facility.

The measure will be taken up again October first.
