Local Business Gets Electric
A Galesburg businessman admits he was thinking about ways to get more people to his shop, but also about ways to go green.

Dave's Auto Body owner Dave Dunn this past week installed an electric vehicle charging station at his Grand Avenue location. He's offering it up to anyone who needs to charge their vehicle, but especially to those who might need work done there, too.

Dunn tells WGIL, after all, he is a businessman.

"Primarily, I see it as a marketing tool for Galesburg and also for our company, Dave's Auto Body," Dunn said.

But Dunn says there was another reason: the fact an electric vehicle is now a part of his rental fleet. Dunn tells WGIL the Nissan Leaf is really starting to turn heads around the shop.

"It's stunning," Dunn said. "I had a lot of people who were pretty hesitant or skeptical here at Dave's. Now, people are kind of fighting for it. 'Hey, can I drive the electric car to go do this errand?' It's really fun to drive, and it's quite luxurious, surprisingly."

There are virtually no other electric vehicle charging stations anywhere in the immediate area, which had local tourism officials express interest in Dave Dunn's efforts, too.
