Preparing Students to be Safe
It takes less than three seconds to click your belt into place--but many people don't.

This month is National Safety Awareness Month and the Carla Sandburg College held their second annual National Safety Awareness event today.

Student's had many options of things to see from a booth giving out information about Safe Harbor to a demonstration of the jaws of life.

One of the demonstrations talked about how important it is to wear a seat belt.

Illinois State Trooper Jason Wilson tells WGIL why the seat belt demonstration is so important

"We just want to make sure that we can convince people to understand why this is in place. It's not about the law itself, it's not about making money, it's not about us pulling people over and harassing them. It's the simple fact that we don't like going to somebodies doorstep knocking on that door asking the person to sit down because we've got to tell them a love ones been killed."

Wilson says there has been many occasions when an adult remembers to buckle their child into the seat but doesn't themselves and if the car rolls there is a good chance the child can be crushed.

Students also got to see fellow students pulled from a car by the Galesburg Fire department and the jaws of life.
