A Special Train Ride This Weekend Comes Through Galesburg
Galesburg residents still have an opportunity to take a train ride between here and Quincy or here and Chicago, on a specially-restored train that, up to now, hasn't been used for long distance trips like this since the late 1960's.

The Illinois Railway Museum has restored the "Nebraska Zephyr" train to its original silver look and interior. The museum is taking passengers between Chicago and Quincy Saturday and Sunday, and will stop in Galesburg about four times during the round-trips.

Some train cars and a dining car have been restored as well, and the museum's Harold Krewer tells the WGIL Morning News there are plenty of seats on each car.

"We would have a hundred and fifty four. There would be sixty in each of the two coaches that are open for passengers and then there would be thirty four seats total in the parlor car and of course we've got thirty two seats in the dining car but we can't sell those because that's where people have to come to sit down to eat."

Krewer says passenger lists need to be sent to Amtrak at least 24 hours in advance, which is why it's important to register now by contacting the Illinois Railway Museum or by going to its website.

Krewer says countless hours have been spent on the train's restoration.
