Local Businesswooman Wants to Expand to Dog Grooming
Galesburg woman known for starting up and owning a number of businesses downtown is getting ready to add another business that's a little different than the others.

Amy Haynes says she recently completed dog grooming school, and has purchased 294 North Whitesboro Street. She asked the Galesburg Planning and Zoning Commission to have the property re-zoned from residential to neighborhood business.

The building has become in Haynes' words, a bit of an eyesore in recent years, since it's been about a decade since a business has been in it. But Haynes says that's okay

"I'v done a lot of renovations before, I can do a lot of the work myself. Mostly it going to be like the roof and outside but the inside all I'm going to do is like tear down the existing walls and go back to the barn board and the ceilings is Wayne's coating and I'm going to go back down to that and paint that the floors in good shape."

Haynes says she hopes to have exterior work started soon, with interior work done over the winter. She plans on opening up "Pookie's Pet Style Dog Grooming" in the spring -- assuming the Galesburg City Council approves of the re-zoning.

They'll see it on first reading October first, and take a final vote October 15th.

The building has been zoned buisness before, but lost its conditional use status after being vacant for years.
