Finding Safe Ways to Stop Underage Drinking
There was one goal in mind for a training program police officers from Galesburg, Knox County and Monmouth participated in.

How to have a controlled party dispersal when breaking up a rowdy or underage drinking party.
The training was provided by the "Underage Drinking Enforcement Training Center" and Consultant for the Center Scott Friedlein tells WGIL parties today are a whole different ball game.

"It's a different enviroment when the alcohol choice now is distilled spirtis or liquor the kids are getting intoxicated more quickly at higher levels then even before and so the amount of danger they are in is much greater than we've ever seen."

Officers participated in a Mock Party later in the day so they could see how a controlled Party Dispersal should work.

Friedlein says parents play a key roll in underage drinking. He says some parents are enablers who are looking at reliving their youth. Parents need to be educated on how to talk with their kids about underage drinking and Friedlein says the first step is making sure you know who your child is hanging out with.
