Unemployment Moves Back Down Across Area
Increases in the local unemployment rates the last couple months have ended.

Statistics supplied by the Illinois Department of Employment Security indicate that the August unemployment rate for the City of Galesburg is at eight-point-seven percent -- down four-tenths from the month prior.

In all of Knox County, the decline is only one-tenth of a percent, down to eight-point percent.

In Warren County, the jobless average for August went down five-tenths to eight-point-two percent.

That makes for a Galesburg-are Unemployment Average, as the state defines it, at eight-point-four percent.

Among other area decliners, Fulton County's unemployment rate went slightly down but back below double-digits, to nine-point-nine percent.

Henry County went down two-tenths to seven-point-three percent.

And the biggest decliner was McDonough County, whose jobless rate went down a full percentage point to eight-point-five percent.

The state says 11 of 12 metro areas in the state saw unemployment declines, and IDES director Jay Rowell says in a press release that the current economic cycle "is filled with small up and down movements."
