City Says Energy Peddlers Can Be in Galesburg
If you've answered a door-to-door sales call recently from someone trying to get you to switch your power company, they can be here.

That's according to the City of Galesburg. The city says an energy provider has been registered with the city clerk's office, so they can go door-to-door to try and convince you to switch your energy provider from Ameren.

The city cautions, however, that the firm is not a representative of Ameren or the city. And while the city did not say who the firm is, sources say it's Constellation Energy, which has been an energy aggregator in other communities around the state.

City officials say if asked, a peddler like Constellation is required to show a card which identifies them as being registered.

But it also means they have rules to follow. They can only solicit between 9am and 7pm and must obey any signs that ban such sales on individual property.

The city says they have received several complaints about the firm and its 12 employees working in town, ranging from misrepresentation, working outside posted hours, and not leaving when asked to.

Constellation may be working to get energy contracts signed locally before voters can go to the polls and determine whether or not the city should solicit energy aggregators on a wide scale.

A public meeting on that effort is scheduled for October 15th at 5:30pm at Galesburg City Hall.
