Thousands Celebrate Labord Day in Galesburg
The grand marshal of the annual Galesburg Labor Day Parade says unions are still strong, but they could be stronger.

Mike Hobbs of Galesburg is a longtime transportation union supporter and railroad employee, who says it was an honor for him to be picked to be grand marshal this year.

Hobbs tells WGIL it will be unions that will bring workers some of what they may have been missing over the years.

"To seek a living wage, good working conditions. Those things are eroding now and we need to get those things back. I like a vote for President Obama and Cheri Bustos. I believe they understand that the middle class needs help."

Representative of the Bustos campaign, that of her 17th District Congressional opponent Bobby Schilling, and other local politicians joined in this year's parade.

Preserving the middle class was the theme of this year's parade in downtown Galesburg, attended by several thousand.
