Pot and Liquor Ordiances on City Council Agenda Monday
The Galesburg City Council Monday night could override a mayoral veto.

Aldermen will consider a possible override of Mayor Sal Garza's veto last month of an ordinance that would have allowed possession of two and a half grams of marijuana or less to be a city charge instead of a state charge.

Garza vetoed the measure, claiming the ordinance didn't go far enough. He wanted to see sanctions imposed on youth offenders similar to the Insight Program offered by the Abingdon School District. While Garza specifically cited District 217, the Galesburg School District also has something similar.

Proponents of the measure, like ordinance creator, 7th Ward Alderman Jeremy Karlin, said there were plenty of potential sanctions that more didn't need to be added.

Also Monday, aldermen will hear about the long-drafted proposal to allow alcohol sales during special events at Lake Storey Pavilion. This, despite trouble in recent months getting Garza's Liquor Advisory Commission to even get together to review the ordinance.

A proposal regarding high tunnel growing structures after one was built in violation of city ordinance will be considered as well, when the Galesburg City Council meets Monday at 6:30pm inside council chambers at Galesburg City Hall.
