Local Inventor Wants to Help Disasters
Hurricane Isaac might have provided the perfect opportunity for a Galesburg investor to expand the reach of her product.

Linda Lewis of Galesburg invented the "Flipple" several years ago, which can turn something like a water bottle into a baby bottle by using a screw-on nipple.

Lewis tells WGIL she's been trying to get her product available to those suffering from natural disasters.

"I've been trying to contact FEMA and through an organization, P-TAC is what it is called, and they help small business hook up with government opportunities. Through my mentor there she enabled me to have a face to face with the actual FEMA people up in Chicago, which was pretty impressive."

Lewis says the meeting went very well, and the FEMA official she met with thought she had a great idea.

But, as is the case with government red tape, Lewis has a long way to go. She's been directed to another Chicago FEMA official who deals with baby supplies put in to emergency kits.

Lewis says, however, she thinks she'll soon be able to meet with officials in Washington.
