Transformer Fire Cuts Power to Hundreds in Galesburg
It might have been a rough start to the day for some, as hundreds of Galesburg homes were affected by a power outage early Tuesday morning.

Ameren IP reported over 950 Galesburg residents were still in the dark at 5:15 a-m. The vast majority of the power outages were on the west side of Galesburg. A city police spokesman said a transformer on a pole near the U-S Route 34 off-ramp at West Main Street caught on fire, the apparent cause of the outage.

Ameren IP's outage map also showed nearly 100 outages combined in Cameron, Monmouth and Gerlaw. It's not clear if those outages were related to the ones in Galesburg.

Crews with the utility made repairs, and the electricity was back on in the affected areas by 6:45 Tuesday morning.
