Want Some Smoke Detectors With Your Pizza?
Forget about whether you receive your pizza in 30 minutes or less the next couple of days. Galesburg Fire Department officials say if you order a pizza and you have working smoke detectors, your pizza could be free.

The Galesburg Fire Department says Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, Galesburg residents who order a pizza from either Pizza House or Happy Joes between 5:30 and 7pm each day might essentially get it delivered from the Fire Department, if they inspect your home and determine that you smoke detectors are where they should be, have batteries, and are operational when tested.

Galesburg Fire Captain Dan Foley tells WGIL there's no guarantee, however, you'll get a visit from a firefighter the next couple days. "It's randomly selected. The pizza places actually select them, and give us a number of different ones to get to, and we get to as many as we can," Foley said. "Unfortunately, we only go to buildings that we know have the battery backup-type detectors."

Smoke detectors must be within 15-feet of bedrooms in every home, and must also be in the basement near heating sources, like a furnace or water heater.
