Surprise! Gas Prices Are Going Down
The price of gasoline in Illinois has fallen 51 cents in the last month. The Illinois average for October is $3.30, according to the monthly survey by the AAA Chicago Motor Club.

AAA spokeswoman Nicole Niemi says the key factor is the price of crude oil, which has fallen from $160 to around $70 a barrel. Niemi says a gasoline price drop would have occurred sooner had the supply not been pinched by Gulf Coast hurricanes, so she says there's still some dropping left to do.

The current price still is not cheap. It's 49 cents higher than what gas cost last year at this time.

The least expensive gas in Galesburg is well below the state average at about $2.82.
